From founding days to today: Albert and Mateu’s 5th Belversary

Soon after throwing confetti to celebrate our fifth anniversary as a company, we have the exciting opportunity to spotlight two outstanding team members who have also hit an amazing milestone: five incredible years at Belvo! Today, we roll out the red carpet for Albert and Mateu!

Albert Maristany, known to us as Maris, is our Chief Meme Officer. From the beginning, he has contributed countless memes about his colleagues and daily life, making humor one of the great pillars of our culture. But beyond his skills in creating images, Maris is a cornerstone of our engineering team. Over the past five years, he has been part of several teams, always helping to solve the most challenging technological problems.

Mateu, from the island of Palma de Mallorca, leads the infra world (infrastructure team) to ensure that our systems are stable, scalable, and secure, enabling other teams to focus on delivering value. Mateu is a good example of growth within a company. He began his journey at Belvo as an engineer and, through hard work and dedication, evolved into the team lead.

As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we recognize that Mateu and Albert are more than just employees; they are integral parts of our story so far. Their journey reflects our company’s vision for growth, passion, commitment and fun, and we are grateful to be working with them.

Thank you for being the heart of our organization. Here’s to many more years of success together!

Here’s a short Q&A to get to know them and their journey better:

1. How was your beginning at Belvo?

Maris: This is a good one! Pablo and Uri (Belvo’s founders) reached out to me, and during our meeting, they conveyed the company’s vision in a way that made me feel, “I can trust these guys!”.

When I first joined, it was just another developer and myself in the company, but soon after, more talented people started joining the team. It was an incredible experience, and I learned a lot from them, especially since I was the youngest member. I have good feelings from those times. Fun fact: on my second day at work, I was left alone at our first office as our founders were traveling to Mexico!

2. What changed the most today vs. 5 years ago?

Maris: One important change is obviously the team size; we used to be a small team and able to meet everyone every few months, but now we have separate teams and people working from other countries! Now as a larger company, we have more processes and teams working in different ways, which is more structured and in many ways advanced compared to how we were back then. At the same time we still quickly can get things done and the camaraderie aspect hasn’t been lost!

3. Tell us about your professional growth during these 5 years.

Mateu: I’ve experienced exponential growth over the past few years. I started as a senior backend engineer, and within just a few months, I was given the opportunity to acquire knowledge that might take others a year to learn! It was a constant call to action: “Come on! Let’s work on this!”

At that time I also began working on some infrastructure tasks. After several promotions, I established the infrastructure department and now I’ve been leading the team for a while!

4. What do you enjoy the most about Belvo’s Engineering team’s culture and what would you tell to someone joining the team?

Mateu: I will say that we have a culture that will help you to move fast, while growing and learning a lot.

It also gives you a lot of flexibility and autonomy. You will learn, but of course, comes with responsibility, because you have to learn things out of your comfort zone and take responsibility!

5. What is the company perk you like the most?

Mateu“Work from Any Office”. I’ve been both in Mexico and Brazil and was able to combine work trips with holidays!
Maris: Being able to work from home and having time flexibility is amazing.
