Growing with Belvo: The Mexico Payments team

At Belvo, we often say that we aren't just building a company; we are building the future of financial infrastructure in Latin America. But that future isn’t built by code alone — it’s built by people who are resilient, adaptable, and ready to grow alongside the product.

Today, we’re sharing the journey of two incredible women who have been instrumental in our growth: Diana and Montserrat. Both joined Belvo before Direct Debit became the powerhouse it is today in Mexico. Their stories are a masterclass in professional evolution and the "Belvo Way" of doing things.

The evolution of a powerhouse product

Direct Debit is more than just a payment method; it’s a complex ecosystem that bridges the gap between modern fintech and traditional banking. For Diana, who has been with us for 2.5 years, the journey started with a vision.

"I knew this payment method would be successful from the moment I joined," Diana says, "but I didn't expect it to grow so much, so quickly."

Diana recalls the early days as a "startup within a startup," where roles were fluid and everyone wore multiple hats. Today, she looks back at a product that has improved "one thousand percent." One of her proudest moments? Seeing the AI collections product, an idea she championed from day one, come to life. It’s a testament to Belvo’s culture: if you have a great idea and the data to back it up, we’ll build it.

Montserrat joined Belvo in October 2021, initially focusing on Open Finance. Her trajectory is a perfect example of how Belvo encourages internal mobility. From Product Operations to helping build our most successful tax-related products, she eventually transitioned to the payment universe in 2024.

For Montserrat, the challenge was mastering the deep complexity of the Mexican payment landscape.

"Dealing with financial institutions is a difficult but exciting part of the role," Montserrat explains. "It requires immense resilience to navigate strict processes and turn them into seamless experiences for our clients."

Now managing bank relationship strategies, Montserrat focuses on high-impact goals like exploring the main pain points of customers with banks and merchants, such as having same day response, and ensuring that the technical "rails" of Direct Debit are more transparent and flexible for every user.

Growing the team: Welcoming fresh perspectives

While Diana and Montserrat represent the "early Belvoers" who shaped Direct Debit, the team continues to attract new talent driven by that same spirit of innovation. Just two months ago, we welcomed Pablo de la Rosa to the payment fold. As a Product Operations Associate, Pablo has hit the ground running, quickly becoming a key part of the "knowledge hub" that supports our Engineering, CS and  Sales teams. His arrival marks a new chapter as we scale, bringing fresh energy to the daily mission of making direct debit more accessible and efficient across Mexico.

"At Belvo, creative teamwork drives our innovative spirit, continuous learning fuels our professional growth, and every day is both rewarding and enjoyable", Pablo shares.

Culture: Why join Belvo?

What keeps them at Belvo? It’s a culture that Diana describes as "distinctly different from traditional Mexican companies." It’s not about titles or hierarchy; it’s about mental and cultural openness.

  • Accelerated Growth: Diana highlights that her 2.5 years at Belvo have provided more professional development and hands-on learning than any of her previous roles, thanks to the constant challenge of innovating in a fast-paced market.
  • Belvolution: For Montserrat, the highlight is the people. The recent "Belvolution", Belvo's company offsite, allowed her to finally meet the engineering team face-to-face, turning video-call colleagues into lifelong teammates.
  • A Safe Space: Diana emphasizes the value of being able to speak openly. "I have the confidence to express when I'm not feeling well, something that wasn't possible in previous jobs."

Looking toward the future

Both Diana and Montserrat are now focused on scaling Direct Debit to new heights. Diana is passionate about teaching and developing the next generation of product experts within the team, while Montserrat is tackling the technical complexity of the product and improving how we share knowledge across the company.

As this payment method expands into finance, operations, and beyond, these two leaders are at the helm, proving that at Belvo, you don't just find a job: you find a platform to build your legacy.
