Managed Collections: recover first missed payments before they become losses

The first days of a missed payment are the ones that weigh most. A payment that doesn’t arrive on time is still recoverable, but every day that passes brings it closer to becoming a loss. Chasing those arrears with manual retries, phone calls, or an agency eats up time and budget, and rarely returns what it costs.

Managed Collections handles that recovery for you, end to end. Recover your first missed payments and keep more accounts current automatically, without having to build a dedicated team.

Recover end to end, without adding people

Managed Collections designs and runs the collection strategy for you. You send the accounts in arrears, and we decide, for each payment, whether to collect, how much, and when. Your recovery grows without having to hire or stand up a collections area.

The collection decision doesn’t follow a fixed rule. Our intelligence, built on hundreds of millions of payments, adjusts each attempt to the payment and the moment, to recover as much of your current portfolio as possible.

How it works, step by step

Getting started is simple and needs no development to begin.

  1. Send. Share your accounts in arrears with their current status, by file or API.
  2. We optimize. Our intelligence reviews each payment and decides whether to collect, how much, and when, to recover as much as possible.
  3. You receive. We process the collections, and the recovered money lands directly in your account.

Where it fits alongside your current collections

Managed Collections runs in parallel with your operation, without replacing your collections or your processor. It steps in right when a payment doesn’t arrive on time, and adds value where the usual methods fall short:

  • Internal retry rules apply the same attempts, the same amount, and the same timing to every payment, without telling apart which case is most likely to pay.
  • A collection agency piles on call and handling costs that keep growing even when few customers respond and fewer still pay.
  • Selling the portfolio recovers something right away, but at the cost of giving up your loans at a discount.

Against that, Managed Collections sets a strategy per payment, charges a commission on what it recovers, and acts while the loans are still in your current portfolio, before you have to think about selling them. All with no contact with the customer: the collection goes to the bank account they already authorized.

Direct debit as the foundation for collection

Managed Collections collects through direct debit. Your customer authorizes once and, from then on, each collection runs on its date from their account, with no need to ask again. That authorization works in your favor two ways: it keeps many payments from arriving late and, when one does fall behind, it leaves the permission ready to recover it.

It’s also the way to collect when card retries stop working, because it goes straight to the account instead of depending on a card that may be expired or out of funds. Belvo runs direct debit in Mexico under bank-grade security standards, with ISO 27001 certification.

You pay only on what you recover

The model is aligned with your results: the commission is charged on what’s recovered, so every peso you pay comes from a peso that landed in your account. There’s no cost per attempt or per handling, and the return is positive from the first collection.

Put Managed Collections to work on your portfolio

How much of your overdue portfolio could you recover before writing it off? The most direct way to find out is with your own portfolio. Pick a set of accounts in arrears, connect it by file or API, and measure what Managed Collections recovers in the first few weeks. Talk to our sales team to get started.
